Friday saw Jack and I meeting all the organizers and participants, some for the first time, at Archerfield prior to departure. Following the departure Jack and I headed off to Consuelo Station rather than Roma to visit friends from the Consuelo Cattle Co who had suffered extensive damage earlier in the year from the floods. We had lunch there and with Scott and Alex to which Scott joked that the meat was a little tough and he had been meaning to discuss this with his neighbour. This reminded me when I visited earlier in the year once the water had resided and fences repaired, the muster of one paddock of 600 cattle found 200 belonged to the neighbour. The inability of non mining companies (read remunerate) to find employees or contractors became obvious from day one, the only way Scott could get earth works done on his property was to buy an excavator and train up his sons to operate it. I wish to thank Scott and Consuelo Cattle Company for their donation of aviation fuel for my aircraft.
From Consuelo we flew to Charleville arriving first where there was quite a number of locals to welcome us. Jack and I held the fort until the others arrived. We had a great night starting with an excellent meal from the RSL, the best vegies so far on this trip. The quiz night organized by the local Flying Doctor Base was great fun with the winning team having the least correct answers but having purchased the most correct answers, they should have been named mega rich not mega mind.
We, being Jack and I left Wakefield airfield near Attunga just north of Tamworth on Thursday 23June, we delayed the departure due to fog along with minus 3 degrees temperature. The trip had low cloud until Inverell when it became sky clear with great visibility.
Hello Folks,
